ARRANGEMENTS IN THE SOUTH.
WELLINGTON PREPARATIONS

WELLINGTON, Monday.
At a meeting of schoolmasters and committeemen held here, it was decided_ to abandon the idea to arrange singing by the. children during the Roya* procession. This decision was arrived at, because it was anticipated that there would only be small children.
There will be ten arches in Wellington streets "during the Royal visit. Tbe proposal to erect a Maori" arch will not be proceeded with, but an arch of fern, flax, and toitoi will be constructed near Government House.
The cadets for the Cliristcburch review will leave their respective headquarters for Christchureb on the 19th inst.
Over £80 has been subscribed for the Wellington women's presentation to the Duchess. It was decided to add to tbe presentation a table, on which to stand the model Maori house, with (a tablet in gold setting forth by wbom it was given. The public buildings in all the chief centres, and in some other leading towns, will be illuminated on the evening of 11th inst., the date of the Duke's arrival.
