SMALLPOX IN SYDNEY.
ALARMING SPREAD OF THE
DISEASE
A CHINESE IMPORTATION.
(Received 9.17 a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day.
The health authorities are unable to trace tbe source of' contagion in the case of the woman found suffering from smallpox. She resided in North Sydney, and was removed to the coast hospital under the assumption that she was suffering from scarlet fever. An impression is growing, despite the opinion of tbe Board of Health to the contrary, that the outbreak of smallpox is due to the premature release of the Australian China Contingent These men brought a quantity of loot, which may have carried the germs of the disease.
SYDNEY. June 3
Four more cases of smallpox are reported, three on the quarantine station and one in the city.
