PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB.
The members of the Ponsonby Cruising Club held their annual smoke concert on Friday evening ill the Ponsonby -Hall, Mr A. Bettany {commodore) presiding1. There was a crowded attendance, and a very pleasant Jime was spei>.t by all present. AmodeoV band was present, and played a number of excellent selections. The Commodore proposed the toast of "The King," which was enthusiastically honoured. The prizes won by the club's yachts were then presented, and the winners? were very cordially toasted. Mr Sydney W. Buck presented the Commodore and the vice and rear-commo-dores with their club flags. Mr A. Thompson, the hon. secretary, was presented by the club with a handeome gold watch, suitably inscribed, in appreciation of his valuable sei'vices of the club, and the recipient; was warmly cheered. The toast of the vice-president was cordially honoured, and Mr Clare made a very much appreciated speech, urging on yachtsmen the necessity of always acting as gentlemen, especially when away cruising, and of treating the hospitable settlers along the coast with thai, consideration which they deserved. IVfr S. D. Hanna proposed the toast of the committee of the club, and Mr Buck responded. The toasts of "Kindred Associations," "The Ladies," and "The Press" were also honoured. During the evening songs were given with great success by Messrs Diamond, "White, Tyler, McAuliffe, Doran, Nicholson, Andrews, Hewson, Hawkins, and others, and a banjo and whistling duet by Messrs Smithson and Hodson. The hall was well decorated for the occasion. The catering- was attended to by Mrs Parkinson, of Victoria St. A number of visitors from other aquatic bodies were present, and thoroughly enjoyed the reunion.
