ASSOCIATION NOTES.
I suppose it is the first time in their history that United have been defeated twice in succession. However, each defeat was only by a margin of one goal, and in the match againSt V.M.C.A. there were a good many juniors in their ranks.
The meeting between Grafton and Y.M.CA. should provide a great "go." Both teams have won their two matches, and they seem to be very even.
I hear the Association is in a rather better financial condition than it was a little time back, and that the change is owing to the efforts of Messrs. Southall and H. Ooldie, the hon. secretary and hon. treasurer respectively.
This afternoon's championship matches were suspended, and the Domain taken up with matches between Auckland first and second elevens and teams from the Torch, and Sparrow and Archer combined.
The secretary of the Association has heard from the Otago Association, who want Auckland to send a team down in July, before the interprovincial llugby matches begin, so that the "gate" may be as large as possible. Mr. Southall is very hopeful of getting a team away. It will be remembered that Otago beat Auckland at Potter's last year by one goal, and carried off the challenge shield to Otago. It is to be hoped that Auckland will bring it home with them this time.
I hear that Wellington wish to come up here this year, though I can't see why Auckland shouldn't play them on their way to Dunedin. Of course if they "want to come, we shall be only too pleased to see them.
