Owing1 to the damage done by the recent fire, the meeting- of Lodge Ara, No. 348, I;C, will not be held on Monday evening-. The Government Commission on Education, which has been sitting in the South Island, to-day commenced the work of taking evidence in this city. The object of the Commission is to enquire into the desirability or otherwise of a colonial scale for the salaries of public school teachers, and the staffing of the schools. The Government steamer Hinemoa arrived at Onehunga this morning-and berthed at the wharf.
