WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
(By TeiegTaph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, Friday.
Tlie Waikato Comity Council met here to-day. It was reported that repairs to Leslie's Bridge had been satisfactorily made at a cost of £64, earthwork being substituted for two land spans. Mr Stewart, C.E., informed the Council that he had appointed Mr Thos. Coultas as overseer of the work at Whangamarino Bridge, and an additional expenditure of £80 was required to do the work in a satisfactory manner. The Council expressed dissatisfaction that the work should cost nearly double the engineer's first estimate. A progress payment of £50 was passed to Mr Walsh, the contractor. A Gazette notice was read vesting the control of the Mangatangi Bridge in the Whangamarino Eoad Board, maintenance being allotted as follows:—Whangamarino 68 per cent, Mercer 16, and Pokeno 16 per cent. Some half-dozen applications were received for slaughtering licenses from butchers in various parts of the county, but as none were signed by the Stock Inspector after inspection, a3 required by the Act, they were not granted. The clerk stated that when accounts to date, totalling £183 8/4, had been passed for payment, the debit balance would be £10. £100 was voted to the Huntly Road Board for expenditure on roads in that riding.
