ST. GEORGE'S ROWING CLUB.
ANNUAL BALL,
The annual ball in connection witli St. George's Rowing Club was held ii the Choral Hall last evening, and proved a great success, although the disastrous fire at the Grand Hotel, a few hundredl yards away, brought the dance to art abrupt conclusion before the programme had been completed. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, the committee having evidently spared no pains to make the effect as pleasing] as possible. Two of the club's gigs wer© suspended from the ceiling, and crossed sculls, tied with the club's colours (red and white), were placed at intervals along the Avails, while a liberal supply} of nikau palms and flags helped to ma&« a most effective display. The supper* room and the stage were also prettily} decorated. Among the dancers, who( numbered 148 couples, were Captain.' Brown and the officers of the American, warship, and several officers from th«{ British warships Archer and Torch. Thai various rowing clubs in the city wenal also represented. The floor, which waa( prepared by Messrs Winks and Hall, was in excellent order, and the mnsi<y supplied by Meitdith's string band, g»v« every satisfaction.
