THE KENNEL.

(By Cam's.)

A committee meeting of the Auckland Kennel Club was held on Wednesday night last at Mr Tapper's Hotel, the new quarters to which the dub has recently shifted, i.nd which, being adjacent to the show-room, is more convenient. It transpired that not all the gentlemen who hud been written to re judging the forthcoming show had replied, and several who did reply declined the honour, and others were nominated to fill the vacancies, and their names will have to be submitted to the New Zealand Kennel Club for its approval before they can be finally decided on. The schedule is out in book form, and as usual is a liberal ono. Collies have been allotted seventeen classes and fox terriers ten, find all the remaining breeds are well provided for. The show is announced for August 2nd and 3rd next at the Agricultural Hall.

The Christchurch Sheep Dog Trial Club was to hold its annual competitions this week, and several Southern cracks were announced to compete. In a later issue I shall have something to say anent the result of this useful work.

Still another good collie has left England for America, Mr Watson having purchased "Cavehill Eclipse." He is t'6 be shown in America as "Emerald Eclipse."

Mr H. Webster (Dunedin) recently wrote to the New Zealand Kennel Club protesting against the action of the Canterbury Kennel Club in disqualifying his fox terrier "Grit" in the novice class at. their last show.

It would appear that Grit was eligible to compete in the class named, and the N.Z.K.C. are supporting Mr Webster. Whilst on the subject I may say that I understand the local K.C. this year are arranging- the order of their schedule so that the Novice Class will be taken first and so give a dog- that is capable a chance .of winning right through. I have advocated this for the past six years, and this year I believe the N.Z.K.C. has ordered it to be so, and rightly so. Why should Auckland want to be about a dozen years behind all other big centres in such matters?

The following is from the "N.Z." Field": —A committee meeting of the Ha-wke's Bay Kennel and Poultry Club was held at the Masonic Hotel (Napier) last Saturday evening, Mr Paul Hunter (President) occupying the chair. A deputation from the newlyformed Hastings Kennel and Poultry Club attended to ascertain the exact dates upon which the Napier show was to be held, so as not to clash with that fixture. It was finally arranged that if the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club steeplechase meeting was not held on the Wednesday following the Napier show the Hastings Society would hold their exhibition on that day. The question of judges was considered, and several names were submitted, and the secretary was instructed to ascertain if the services of those gentlemen were available, and at what cost. It was also resolved to communicate with the Wellington Kennel Club, asking if that body would share either Mr Court Bice's or Mr Freeman Lloyd's expenses if either of these gentlemen's services could be obtained to judge the dogs.
