THE BROOKLYN.
OFFICERS VISIT CALLIOPE DOCK.
In response to an invitation forwarded by Mr Alfred Kidd (Chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board), Admiral Remey and a number of the officers of the U.S. Flag-ship Brooklyn this morning- inspected Calliope Dock. Mr Kidd invited members of the Harbour Board to be present, and when the p.s. Britannia left the Queen-street Wharf shortly after 10 o'clock there were present Mr Frank Dillingham (U.S. Consul), Mr G. Dunnett (French Consul), Mr Bachelder '(U.S. ViceConsul), Mr A. Kidd (Chairman) and Messrs M. Niccol, W. Gunson, C. C. Da ere, J. Stiehbury (members of the Harbour Board), Mr J. M. Brigham (Seci-etarj'), Captain Duder (Harbourmaster), Mr H. H. Metcalfe (Engineer for Works at Calliope Dock), Mr George Fowlds, M.H.R., Mr H. Brett, and Mr F. Kidd. His Worship the Mayor (Dr. Campbell) was unable to be present, and Mr J. H. Witheford, M.H.R., joined the party at the Shore. The Britannia went off to the Flagship Brooklyn and took on board Admiral Homey, Captain Dickins, Major Spicer, Lieuts. Shipley, Belknap, McGrann, Olmsted, Captain Brown, Ensigns Yamell, Brown, Naval Cadets Brinser, Ellis, and Train.
The visitors were then taken to the Dock, where Mr S. D. Hanna (Engineer in Charge) escorted the party round the workshops and exhibited the massive repairing machinery now being erected for the British Admiralty. General surprise was expressed at the large size of the d.oc.K, am} the splendid equipment of the machinery.
After about an hour's stay at the Dock the party re-embarked, and the Britannia, after cruising around the harboiir, went on to Takapuna, where the visitors were entertained to lunch by Mr and Mrs H. Brett at their residence, "Te Kiteroa."
After lunch the visitors spent a very, enjoyable time until -3.30 p.m., when they took their departure, expressing themselves highly pleased with the manner in which they had been entertained.
Lieutenant-Colonel White, OfficerCommandino" the District, in paying his official visit to Admiral Bemey on the Brooklyn .yesterday, was accompanied by Lieut. Wall, of the Permanent Force.
