THE ROYAL MAIL BAG.

INTERESTING DISCOVERY BY

LINEMEN,

(Received 9.31 a.m.)

MELBOURNE,, this day.

Gangers engaged guarding the line near Wangaratta during the passage of th.c Royal train to Brisbane were attracted by a large number of slips of papers thrown out of the carriage windows. They proved to be portions of letters addressed to the Royalties, principally to the Duchess. The poems so addressed would seem to have been numerous. It is no doubt consoling to the writers to know their verses were evidently retained, for only the letters accompanying them were found. Other letters were from children and from persons seeking monetary assistance. The epistles bore varying dates, as if their perusal was delayed in order to relieve the tediousness of a long rail-

way journey.
