Chinese officials are preparing for the Court's reception. This is taken as another indication of the Court's speedy return to the capital.
A considerable number of German
troops remain temporarily at Kiaochau. .
Many Germans are irritated because the Americans have latterly guarded the Forbidden City at Pekin. This is interpreted as a reflection on German honesty.
A slight fracas occurred owing to the disregard of an American sentry of his orders in connection with traffic repairs in the street, one German being wounded.

Another indication of the speedy return of the Court to Pekin is that the China Merchants' Company of Shanghai is transmitting a tribute of rice
to Tientsin
The "Times" correspondent at Pekin reports that the British peace proposals are likely to be adopted as the basis of an edict in which the Chinese indebtedness will be admitted at 450 million taels, plus interest (a tael is equal to 6/8). Then will begin the work of evacuation, and China will willingly eompty with the terms laid down.
