RETURNED TROOPERS.
WELCOME TO CORPORAL
WHITSON,
Last evening- a conversazione was held in St. Mary's Parish Hall, Parnell, as a "welcome home" to Corporal Whitson, who recently retui'ned from, the war in South Africa. The Vicar (the Rev. Geo. Mac Murray)( presided, and there was a larg-e attendance of parishioners of St. Mary's and their friends. Mr MaeMurray -warmly welcomed Corporal Whitson back, on behalf of the parishioners of St. Mary's. He spoke of the part played bf the New Zealanders in the South African war, and said that the members of the congregation were proud of the fact, that one of their number had served in the campaign, and were very pleased to have him in their midst again. Corporal Whitson returned his thanks in a brief speech. During the evening- an excellent musical programme was provided by Mesdames Coates, Fleming, Babe, Bennett, Ooss, Sertly and Pnrkes, Misses May White, Youge, and Withers, and Messrs Fleming, F. Lloyd, and others.
