RETURNED TROOPERS.
RECEPTION AT TIMAKU

A social gathering and ball in honour of the South Canterbury members of the returned contingent was field last night, and was the greatest indoor gathering ever held here, fully 1500 of' all classes, from town and country, being present. A huge new store with 20.000 feet floor space was available, and was prettily decorated and excellently lighted. Several speakers. the Hon. Hall-Jones amongst them, welcomed home officers and men, of whom about 40 were present, and a sympathetic telegram was received from the Premier. The whole affair was well arranged, .and was i\ great success. Proceedings opened with a parade of the returned, who were heartily cheered as they marched round the room. Col. Jowsey and Major Crawshaw received ovations on returning thanks for the great reception accorded the troopers.
