OFFICERS APPOINTED.

WELLINGTON, this day. The .captaincy of the Seventh Contingent has been allotted to G. E. Johnston (Waverley), formerly lieutenant of the first contingent, and J. 11. Mamer (Christchureh), an old army man, with an African record. Sergt. Lestrange, formerly of the first contingent, has been promoted lieutenant.

NAPIER, Monday. Percy Emerson, a corporal in the First Contingent, and who has been granted a commission in the Seventh, is a son of the late Inspector Emerson. WELLINGTON, Monday. There are now 334 men and 50 horses encamped at Newtown Park. Surgeon-Major Burns is to be temporarily attached to the Seventh Contingent for duty. Captain Johnstone and Lieut. Davies are to receive commissions, and Veterinary-Lieut Young, lately from the front, is also to be attached. NELSON, Monday. The Nelson and West Coast members of the Seventh Contingent left for Wellington early this morning. They were given a suitable send-off by the local volunteers and band. On Saturday the men were each presented by the Mayor, on behalf of the More Men Fund Committee, with parcel of wool' len comforts. STRATFORD, Monday. Corporal Coutts, of Stratford, a Queen's scarf winner, has received an appointment as captain in the Seventh Contingent. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Captain Coutts was congratulated by the Hon. Mr McGowaii on his appointment to the Seventh Contingent at a small gathering of personal friends last night. Mr McGovvan left for tne South this morning.
