BRADFORD MEMORIAL.

A public meeting, convened oy Major Porritt, of the No. 2 Battalion, was held in the Criterion Theatre on Saturday evening, to decide what steps should be taken to erect a suitable memorial of the late SergeantMajor Bradford, of the No. 2 Battalion, who was not only the first Ne-v Zealander, but the first of all the colonial contingents to lose his life in the present South African war. It was decided that the memorial take the form of an ornamental fountain, to be erected on Primrose Hill, Paeroa, which has been recently set aside as a public park. Several speakers urged that this memorial should be a colonial one, and that subscriptions should be invited from volunteers and others in all parts of the colony, and this, I understand, the committee intend doing.
