WELLINGTON NOTES.

WELLINGTON, this day. Besides Mr Ait Hen, the present Mayor of Wellington, Mr WiUord, M-H.ii., and several other candidates are likely to contest the Mayoralty. The Queen's Statue Fund now amounts to nearly thirteen hundred pounds. The Premier denies therumour of his intended visit to Earotonga and other islands shortly for the purpose of annexing them to New Zealand. Regarding the despatch of 500 volunteers from all parts of the colony to represent New Zealand at the opening of the Federal Parliament, the Premier is communicating with all members of tho New Zealand Parliament by wire, inviting their opinions relative to the sending of the contingent. His action will be based on the nature of the replies received. Dr. Parkinson, health ' officer ' for Forfarshire, now visiting the colony, strongiy recommends the system for the disposal of sewage known as tho bacteriological beds for New Zealand centres. The system is in use lit Scotch cities.
