TRADE OF THE COMMONWEALTH

The returns from the various States show that the trade of the Commonwealth last year aggregated £141,----137,000, being an increase of £690,000 over the previous year. The imports were £68,985,000, an increase of £5,546,000, and the exports £72,151,----000, a decrease of £4,756,000. Tasmania was the only State showing an increase of exports. BRISBANE, this day. Mr. Barton concluded his Queensland campaign by addressing a large meeting at the Exhibition buildings. He had a splendid reception. Mr. Philp said that he hoped Queensland would return a majority of members to both Houses who would support Mr. Barton. He trusted the Federal Ministers would make a trip through the State before at-tempting-legislation. , SYDNEY, this day. Mr. George Held visits Queensland as a counter blast to Mr. Barton's visit.
