SERIOUS NATIVE RISING
REVOLT NEAR NEW BRITAIN.
SIXTEEN LABOURERS KILLED
SYDNEY, this day. News from New Britain (northeast of New Guinea) states that a rising occurred in the French islands to the north of that island. From the meagre particulars to hand it appears that the natives attacked the trading" station of Peter Hansen. They killed sixteen of his labourers and burnt and looted his station and houses. The white traders had taken refuge in some shelter, and at latest advices were holding it against the natives. The Government steamer has gone 1o the scene.
