WEST END ROWING CLtJB,

The West End .Rowing Club heldr trial'vfours on Saturday for their president's (Mr Murdoch McLean's) valuable gold scarf pins. Owing to various causes these trials had been postponed. The crews thus had plenty of time to get in form, and this was plainly, shown by the splendid finishes in. tvery heat, the four : boats beingbunched together from start to finiS&. Mr.mo. Clark (ex-captain) acted as starter in his usual efficient manner, and Mr W. Edwards (captain) filled the position of judge. The races were g-ot off punctually, and were witnessed by a good number of friends and supporters of the Club. The first heat brought out crews strokedbyCon* ' way, Graham, Rees. and G. O. Stephenson, the winning- crew being W. A» Graham (stroke). Hiekson, E. Mason, and Hunter. Stephenson was beaten • by half a length, and the others closa up. The second heat provided another <; good race, the winners being J. Carrigan (stroke), Cossar, Connolly, and Guthrie, who just managed to heat Bigelow's crew,- Lawry's and \V. Stephenson's crew being well up. Tr-e third heat was undoubtedly the best race of the day. Four crews, stroked by E. C. Stephenson, Bert Stephenson, Alick Stephenson, and Littleprouue, faced the starter, and from the drop of the flag to close on the finishing1 post it wa,s anyone's race.
