THE STAR OF AUSTRALIA.
The Tyaer '«.«. Star of Australia arrived from Now York via Melbourne ar.d Sydney this morning. From New York the vessel took thn largest car.?o which Jiaa ever left, th.if port for Australia. Hut run to Melbourne was madi; In the time of 46 days, the fastest passage recorded between the tr/o ports, and that on American coal. She took her departure from the American port on December 22, and called at St. Vincent ten days later for a supply of bunker coal. Thence to the Cape line weather and ligljt wind? were experienced, but on rounding the Cape a heavy easterly gale with high aens was met. The gale lasted five days, and added a day to the steamer's passage. Thence to Melbourne fine weather prevailed, port being made on February 7. Discharged cargo and left on February 1?> for Sydney, arriving on 17. Landed further consignments, and left for Auckland at 8 a.m. on Wednesday last. Had fine weather to Cape Maria Van EHeman, passed at 7 a.m. yejterdny. and cajbu down the coast under Hlow stciisa, arriving as above. Captain W. J. Kaad, late of the Star ot New Zealnru!. Is ij command, and with him are toe following officers:—Chief, Mr Kearney l.Suiv &t Now Zealand); second, Mr liruok (late third officer); third. Mr Aiiid: u.nA fourth. Me Hardy. Mr McDonald is i.till in charge of the engine department, and with him arc Messrs Fife, Brook (Star of Victoria), Ramsay and Speedman, while Messrs Coombes and Boyd are the refrigerating engineers. Messrs T. and S. Morrin are the local inward agents, and the vessel will load for London under the agency of Messrs Heather, Roberton and Co.
