CHEISTCHUECH, this day. The Fire Brigades' competitions resulted as follows: —
Ladder Rescue (for two men): J. Williams and J. Murray, Dunedin City, 245.. 1; J. Strickland"and F. Tankard (Napier), 24 4-55., 2: E. Bragr gins and C. Jenkins, Masterton, 255.,
3. ■ The following brigades also had men competing:—Thames, 29 2-55.;. Paeroa, 33 2-55.; Parnell, 20 2-55.; Waitekauri, 38 2-55.; Onehunga, 27 2-ss.
Manual Engine Competition (for five men): Christchurch City, 42 2-55., 1; Gore, 435., 2.
Coupling Practice (for two men) Caversham (2s. penalty), 42 l-55., 1
Sumner (25.), <I 2 3-55., 2. The following also competed: Parnell, 52 2-55.; Eden Terrace (10s.), G6 3-55.; Paeroa, 56 3-55.; Thames. 525.; Devonport (25.), 69 2-ss.
Manual Engine Practice (one man): E. Burrows, Ashburton, 30 3-55., 1; M. Leysst (2s. penalty), Hastings, 395., 2. A man from the following brig-ade also competed: Devonport (35.), 645.
The barquentine Neptune, from Newcastle, was signalled in the Guli this afternoon.
At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon in the case of Frank Cooke Ball (as receiver for the Auckland Lunatic Asylum) v. James Lang, claim £21 7/. a a order was made for the amount due, the sum to be payable in weekly instalments of two shillings.
