THE KUAKA.
Knaka. the steamer now being built to the order of Auckland Harbour Board Tor the pilot and harbour service, is to be launched from Messrs Logan's yard in about a fortnight. The Union oil engine for the vessel arrived by the last 'Frisco mail steamer, and will be fitted after tlio launch. This engine is the largest marine oil engine south of the line, the indicated horse power being liW. U has four cylinders, working'on two cranks, on the diagonal principle, the diameter being -1 inches, and the length of stroke H inuni-.s. The engine, which is fitted with solid bronzu reversing sear, develops liuu revolutions per minute. It occupies «■ »ouf upace of 10ft by 4ft, with a height ot '. ft. An electric light installation, working from a 31 h.p. oil engine, will be fitted Dy Messrs Stuart ami tfenn, while on (leek a iii h.p. hoist and windlass will be liueti. Messrs W. A. Ryan and Co., agents or the Union Oil i^ngine Company, arc carrying out the worn of buiicuny the vessel.
