Drunkenness.—William Duffy nnd John Johnson were each lined 10/ or •is hours' in default. ~ Breach of City Bye-Laws,-- John Clark was lined S/ and costs for driving a vehicle round a corner at other than a walking pace. Vagrancy, —A young man named James Roach was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, with no visible means of support. Evidence was given by Defectives Maddern, Bailey, and Kennedy, to the effect that accused was in the habit of associating with thieves and prostitutes. James Staeey was similarly charged, and evidence similar to that in the. last ease wtis given. For the sake of accused's parents, His Worship adjourned each case for a week, to enable the accused to go out of town and reform their ways. Remanded. —William Thomas Dixon, charged that on February 23 he did assault one John Herring-ton so ns to cause him actual bodily harm, was remanded till Friday. Mr Lundon appeared for the accused. Offensive Matter. —Alexadner Leith was charged with having on his premises in Kingsland Road an accumulation of manure and other offensive matter. James Barnes, inspector for the Mount Albert district, deposed to serving defendant with a notice toremove the same within twenty-four hours, which defendant failed to do. Defendant was a pig keeper, and his yard was in a very filthy condition, The odour from defendant's premises could be smelt half a mile off. Dr. King, City Health Officer, deposed to visiting the premises in question and said that it was the most abominable place he had ever visited. Defendant said that some time ago the stock inspector said his pigs had swine fever, and in consequence he was prohibited by the Stock Act from selling any pigs alive. He could not. therefore, get rid of bis herd, though two people wanted to buy them. He was obliged by the Act to keen his pigs within a certain area. His Worship adjourned the ease Tor ;i fortnight to give defendant an opportunity of abating the nuisance, at the eiul of yvhich time, if the nuisance was abated, a nominal fine would be imposed. Mr IL Campbell appeared for the Mount Albert Road Board and Mr McGregor for the defence.
