WHANGAREI NOTES.
(By Our Own Correspondent.)
WHANGAREI, Tuesday
Tlie Whangarei Rifle Volunteers are ut present in camp near the mission cemetery. The muster of volunteer officers has been very good. Rergt.-Major Hoar is in charge, and the men are being instructed in all branches of the service, including physical drill. Class-firing of the company is almost completed, and the first squad for volley-firing are being put through to-day (Tuesday). As their arms are not yet to hand, these have been lent to the company by the Marsden Mounted Rifles. ■
The Marsden Mounted Rifles under the command of Hergt.-Major Hoar are to be put through their volleyfiring this week, as soon as the range, which is at present engaged for the Whangarei Rifles, is available. The greater portion of the troop have completed class-firing, and it is anticipated that,. both class and volleyfiring will be completed by the close of the volunteer year.
