The annual picnic of the Mayfleld school children, which was abandoned on Friday owing to the rain, was held on Saturday in Mr Adam Ge'ddes' grounds. Lunch and tea' were supplied in the schoolroom with the aid of funds provided by the last Christ-, mas tree. Games, races, and lollie.. made up the outdoor programme a.nd helped to render the picnic a very enjoyable event.
It will be remembered that about a fortnight ago the Auckland Electric Tramways Company called for tenders for large additions and improvements to the" grandstand at their Potter's paddock property, but as the lowest tender was about £200 above the sum stipulated for by the company Mr Paul M. Hansen, the local attorney, had to place this matter again before his company, and yesterday he received a cable from London to the effect that the directors have sanctioned the increased amount. Mr Farrell's tender was therefore accepted this morning, and the work will be commenced before the' end of this week, and it is to be completed by the beginning of May.
