VOLUNTEER NOTES.
The Auckland Infantry Battalion Xo. 1 pnrnded at the Drill Hull lust evening for Government iuspt-i.'tloii and annual examination of arm,, ami accoutrements. Lleiit.Col. White, officer commanding the district, made the inspection, accompanied by Major Morrow, Acting-Major Scuotteld, Captain Reid (District Adjutant), and Pay and Quartermaster Dormer. During the evening Hon. Captain b\ M. Baume, on behalf -it Mr. Baume, sen., presented a handsome silver-mounted belt to the No. :* Native Ititles for competition at the rifle range. The belt was handed over to Corporal O'Sulllvun, who hud been the best shut in the company during the past year, and Mrrf Baume, Jun. (wife of Hon. Captain Bamnc) presented Corporal O'Sulllvan with a gold medal, and announced her Intention of making an annual award of a modal to the winner in the competition for the belt. The presentations were acknowledged by the corps with hearty cheers.
