Professor Shand presented the report of the Finance Committee. The report stated that the income for the past year totalled falling short of the estimate by £-2. The. expenditure for the year totalled £0082, being £:;02 in excess of the estimate. The cost of examinations continued to increase year by year, and great care was necessary in regard to holding additional examinations and printing of examination pnper.s. For the ensuing year the committee estimated the income at £6304, and the expenditure at £6140, leaving an estimated surplus of £200. This estimate was based oti the assumption that the centres of examinations would be the same as at present. The balance at. the credit of the general account was £3049. In regard to the scholarship account. . the committee estimated the income for 1901 at £2215, and the expenditure at £1870, leaving an estimated surplus of £445. This fund was in a sound condition, but it would not be prudent to overburden it or call upon it. to any great extent. The scholarship capital account stood at £15,408. The _eommitipo recommended that fifteen junior scholarships be offered for competition in December, 1901, and that accounts as audited be passed by the Senate. The report was made an order of the day for to-morrow. The Senate then adjourned till this afternoon, in order to allow committee work to be disposed of.
