NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

NAPIER, Saturday.
The affiliated Caledonian Societies ol New Zealand's second championship
meeting, postponed from yestertfay on account of the wet weather, was held on the Recreation Ground to-day. There was a good attendance, about 2000 people being present. Good form was shown in tho several events, notably in the lOOyiJh Championship, in which McLachlan beat Sexton by a yard in 9 4-ss, and in the i 440 yds handicap, in which McLachlan, from scratch, got within two yards of the winner in 49 4-ss. The time for the mil© handicap was fast, 4m 235, but the winner had a start of 100 yds. R. Scott won all the wrestling: events, and the special prize for most points in wrestling-. A. Carlson won the Governor's (Lord Ranfurly's) medal fpr the best all round athlete, and als.o championships for tosBing the caber, putting the 161b hammer, putting shot, and 120 yds hurdles. J. McKechnie was champion for Highland fling, sheantreaus, reel o' Tulloch, and Highland reel, and won the special prize for most points for dancing. C. Smith won the sword dance championship. D. Campbell was champion piper In pibrocha ana strathspeys and reels, and won the special for most points in piping. W. Sutherland won the gold medal presented by the Hawke's Bay Highland Society for the best piper resident in HawkCs Bay. The following are the results:— Quoits Championship — W. Goddard 1, McKay 2. . Amateur Handicap, 100 yds, 220 yds, and 140yds-Won by W. dimming, who was first in the two last distances; D. Nicholson, with a first In the 100 yds and 2nc in the 220 yds, being 2nd; and. Humphries, 3rd in the 220 yds and 2nd in the 100 yds and 440 yds, was third. Hop Step, and Jump Championship — W. Wyeth, 40ft Cm, 1; A. 90yds, 1: O. Bradley, 2"»oyds; 2: W. Clarkson, OOycTs, H. Uaudvup, scratch, with v splendid sprint, caught tho leading division ;i mile and a-half from home, but came down, spoiling ;i splendid eliauce of winning. Burton won by n wheel. Time, 13m LMs.
