"" AUCKLAND TYPOGRAPHICAL, ' UNION. The annual meeting of the above Union was held on Saturday evening in the Foresters' Hall. There was a large attendance of members, and the President (Hon. W. T. Jennings) occupied the chair. The report of the Board of Management dealt with a number of matters of interest to the craft, and stated among other things that there were good grounds for asserting that several infringements of the Arbitration Court's award had taken place. The Board suggested that steps, should be taken to deal with these cases. The number of members on the roll is 99. The balance-sheet showed the income for the past six months to have been £50 IG/3, which, with the balance of £88 6/1 brought forward from the previous half-year, made a total of £134 2/4. The expenditure was £32 9/1, thus leaving .£lOl 13/3 to the credit of the Union, or. an increase of nearly £20 over the previous half-year's balance. On the motion of Mr J. H. Kirkham, seconded by Mr James, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr W. J. Macdermott was unanimously elected an honorary life member of the Union, on the motion of Mr Graham, seconded by Mr Lowry. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President. Hon. W. T. Jennings -(re-elected); Vice-President, Mr W. Drummond; secretary, Mr F. A. Cleveland (re-elected); Board members to represent the trade, Messrs A. Campbell j and A. E. F. Goodenough (re-elected); ■ trustees. Messrs R.- J. Adlington and J. Carnahan (re-elected). The question of retaining affiliation with the Trade and .Labour Council was brought up, and after a full discussion it was resolved by a large majority that the Union retain its connection with the Council. The following delegates were then elected:—Messrs R. James, A. Wright, J. !C. Chappell and C. H. Lacgard, It was resolved that men employed as proof-readers who had served an apprenticeship as compositors snould .rank as compositors and be eligible for membership in the Union. As two members of the Union are going away in the Seventh Contingent, it Wiut resolved that a^ letter expressing: dhe Union's bc-st wishes be forwarded to each of them. A vote of thanks to the outgoing officers was carried with acclamation. A special meeting of the Union was then held for the purpose of authorising the officers to submit a case or cases to the Bonrd of Conciliation for settlement. A motion giving such authority was moved by Mr Armiger, seconded by Mr Newell, and unanimously agreed to, after which the meeting terminated.
