MILLIONS OF PETRIFIED FISH.

One of the wonders of the world is to be found in Colorado, where certain mineral beds of the nature of slaty coal occur. These beds, containing millions upon millions of petrified fish, cover hundreds of square miles in the north-western part of the State. They extend a distance of 100 miles in the direction of Green River, and "shelve out" for 100 miles more toward the interior of the State. In some places these beds —almost a solid mass of perfectly fossilised fish —are from 150 to 200 feet in thickness. A point of great interest is the fact that they lie about 8000 feet above sea level; to which extent the land is thereby proved to have risen.
