THE WAIHI COMPANY AND THE MINERS' UNION.

DISMISSAL OF OFFICERS

(Ky Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WATHi, this day

Great sensation has been caused here owing to the Waihi Company dismissing without notice, five of the oldest hands, as follows: Mr Charles Molloy, Secretary to the Waihi Branch of the Miners' Union. Messrs Lamb. Glider, Morgan, and Drunnn, members ot the Executive of the Miners' Union. Messrs Drumm and Morgan were elected to represent the. Union at the forthcoming' Conciliation Board sitting, with regard to establishing- a scale of wages for mines and batteries. A schedule of wages affecting all york in or about a mine was recently drawn up and recommended by the Executive of the Thames Miners' Union; this schedule was forwarded last, Tuesday, February 19th, to I he managers of the local mines for approval, before any further steps would bo taken with regard to the sitting of the Conciliation Board. On Wednesday, the day after, it is stated Messrs Molloy find Morgan were dismissed, no reason being given for such action. Mr Molloy is the paid servant of the Union, and was simply acting in that capacity with' regard to the above dispute between the Company and the Union. Great indignation is being expressed on all sides that such action should have taken pla<-e, especially as three of the men dismissed are married.
