STORMY WEATHER.
The easterly gale experienced yesterday veered round at tibout four o'clock this morning- to the northwest, the wind dropping- to a stiff breeze.
The gale caused a good deal of delay to the coastal shipping-, while several small craft were damaged. The yacht Pandora drifted from her moorIngs to the Breastwork near Logan's slip, and was badly smashed. The yachts Corina and Chip also drifted ashore near Campbell's Point, and sustained a good deal of damageSeveral yachts of the patiki class were swamped by the heavy seas, while the yacht Thetis broke adrift from hexmoorings at Ponsonby, but was picked up before any daniage was done. The s.s. Clansman arrived at 6 p.m., having been delayed for about twelve hours by the gale. She sheltered from Thursday evening- to 4 a.m. yesterday in Rawliiti Bay, and down the coast met with very rough seas, frequently rolling her rails under. The-s.s. Taieri, from Westport to Auckland, was unable to face the gale round Cape Mana, and was forced to take shelter under the lee of the land. The Omapere was delayed until'B a.m. to-day, it being- impossible for the vessel to work postal ports in" the storm, and the s.s. Muritai, for way ports and Mercury Bay, had also to wait until to-day to take her departure. The steamers Olenelg and Ohinemuri, from the North, were both delayed by the gale, being obliged to take shelter. Telegraphic communication with the South was interrupted last 'evening and this morning, as a result of the gale, posts being blown down by the wind. Repairs werie effected this morning, and the wires were in good working order this afternoon. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this clay. Captain Edwin advises:— "Wind: Gale from between, north-west and south-west at places north of Thames aud Manukau: gale from between north-east and south-east elsewhere. Barometer: Fall at places northward of East Cape, Taupo and Manukau; 'fail everywhere else. Sea: Heavy on all eastern coast.and or. western coast northward of Greyinouth, considerable thence southward. Tides: High on all eastern coast ana west coast north of Westport; moderate elsewhere. Kain may be expected in all parts of the country and heavy on the eastern side of the South Islasd. Floods are probable in the South Island rivers, and on • the eastern coast of the North Island. Warning Bignals for westerly gales are exhibited at Cape Maria Van Diemen and Tirltirl, and for southerly gales at Capos Ka.rev/«n *nd Foulwlna; for easterly gale a* Rape CarojrtwJi.
