FEDERATION COMMISSION.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day,
The Wellington Trades Council selected three members to give evidence before the Federation Commission, with instructions to oppose strongly, the entrance of New Zealand into the Commonwealth.
TIMARU, Friday,
About a dozen citizens attended a meeting this afternoon, convened by the Mayor, to discuss federation. Only two out of nine speakers spoke favourably. Some spoke adversely, but the majority confessed inability to form an opinion. A motion was carried, "That the meeting is not in favour ot federation until better informed on the subject," No one present had rear the Commonwealth Bill except M. Gracie, lately from Queens-land, where he was an active member of the Federation League.
