ECCLESIASTICAL.
The Northcote Wesleyan Church, was opened yesterday. There were large congregations at the services. At the morning service the Eev. H. 11. Dewsbury officiated, and preached from Joshua 1., ix., "Have not T. cotpmanded thee; be strong and of good courage, lor tne -uuiu, my uu u , is with thee." The singing was led by a strong choir, assisted by an orchestra. Mr Horace Stebbing sang "Consider the Lilies." The evening service was conducted by the Key. C. E. Beecroft.
The Rev. J. Painter, of the American Presbyterian Church, who has been 27 years in China, preached at the Grafton Road Wesleyan; Church last night, giving an interesting account of the state of China at the present time. ' * 5 - . The Key. J. H. Walker spoke in the morning yesterday at the Central Mission. In the evening Mr A. Smith and Sergeant White, of the Sixth Contangent, spoke, and Miss Hanncken sang. Service was also conducted in the evening by the Mission workers at the Domain encampment; the Key. Walker speaking. Last evening, in the Theosophienl Society's Hall, Mr D. W. M. Burn, M.A., of Dimedin, lectured on the subject of "Theosophy and (fommon bense. Miss Home gave a beautiful rendering of the song, "Cleansing Fires, and Mrs Draffin read from the Mahatharata.
