AQUATICS.

The Auckland Rowing- Club's trial fours were to take place this afternoon.

Tbe cruisers' race and the race for yachts, 14 rating and uudev, postponed from the Ponsonby Regatta, were to be sailed off tJfclis afternoon. Tbe new yacht Sunbeam, which ha* beeji built by Messrs k°«'a« Bros> ,io the order of Sir A. T. Fittar for fUe international yacht race at the Jubilee Regatta in Sydney on January 26, was shipped to Sydney by the s.s. Mararoa last Monday. Mr Archie Logan went across with the Sunbeam, and will sail her at the regatta. Mr 0Bailey's new boat for a Sydney yachtsman, which was shipped a week previously, will also be a competitor in the international race.

One of the Canterbury Rowing Club's vice-presidents (Mr A. F. N. Blakiston) leaves shortly for Auckland to take up his residence there. Mr Blakiston was captain of his club in the seasons. 1872-3 and 1874-5. He has since been a vice-president, and has lost no interest in his club, although he has of late been unable to take any active part in the work. Although the Canterbury Rowing Club only won two races at the Championships and Lyttelton regattas, viz., the Champion Pours and Interprovincial Fours, yet they headed the prize money won, the two bip- prizes amounting to £90. Ims club has been exceptionally successful at the Christchurch regatta for the past three years, but, although winning most prize money, they generally have won a large number of races to swell the amount. Competent judges (says the "Weekly Press") consider the winners of the Champion and Interprovincial Fours the strongest crew turned out by any one club-

Considerable interest was taken here (says a Christchurch contemporary ofrecent date) in the first-class yacht races at the Lyttelton Regatta, owing to the fact of Mr A. T. Pittar's yacht Rainbow, an Auckland boat, being among the competitors. The Rainbow sailed all the way from Auckland to Lyttelton to take part in the regatta. The race for the £100 prize and ten guineas trophy, open to yachts 2Cft linear rating and over was won by the Rainbow, the Waitangi (Wellington) taking the second prize of £30. Most people considered the race a foregone conclusion for the Auckland-owned Rainbow, and their estimate proved well founded. Waitangi crossed the line 24secs after ■the gun fire, followed by Koiora 3secs later Yvonne lsec later, and Rainbow lOsee-behind. The last named immediately forged ahead, took the lead, and held it throughout, the yachts finishing in the order named, their corrected times being:—Rainbow, 3 24 ~2 Waitangi, 3°35 15 p.m.; Yvonne 3 38 28 p.m.; Kaiora, 3 41 8 p.m. The winners were very heartily cheered. The Rainbow came second in the first-class handicap yacht race, wmSl *7 In this event she was on "* to Ka™n (Lyttelton) |ro™ came in second. Rainbow crossed the UnTVrst, but on time allowance took second P ace only, having been unable to shake off Kaiora, who performed splendidly, and saved her time by gmln 9see. The corrected times for the four yachts were:—Kaiora, 3 30 31 „ m • Rainbow, 3 32 40 p.m.: Yvonne, 3 42 32 p.m.: Waitangi, 3 40 14 p.m. The handsome little 24 L.R. Miro again showed her superiority by winnine the second heat, at the North Shore Sailing Club races last Saturday, making "her second win out o. two starts, the other being the Ponsonby Regatta, two days after she was launched. Messrs Bailey and Lowe, designers and builders, have every reason to be highly complimented on turning out sue-to a flyer. She was splendidly handled throughout both races "by the well known amateur crack .Tack Kissling. The Enlalie, by the same builders, succeeded in winning the first heal tit the North Shore on the December 8 last, and gelling- second to the Miro last Saturday, which gives her a clear lead for the trophy by three points. The canvassers on behalf of the Auckland anniversary regatta have been meeting with very satisfactory responses, and the collection of subscriptions is going on well. If the weather is line for Regatta Day, the function should prove a great success. The choice of the s.s, Mnraroa as flagship will be a very popular one, for this fine vessel is admirably suited for the purpose. Entry night is fixed for Tuesday next.

Parnell Sailing Club second series of races takes pluce onSnt-«rtlny,26th hist. Entries for same will he received at the Waitemata Hotel on Tuesday evening. 22nd ttist., from 7.30 to '.' o'clock.
