(To be concluded.)

The Rev. Joseph Parker, D.D., after one week of experience as editor of the '"Sun," sees no jocularity whatever in. the reporter's answer 'to the evangelist's question, "Are you a Christian?" The reply, "No, I'm a journalist," fills the bill. Dr. Parker has been tryingthe possibilities of Christian journalism, and has found such a multitude of eleventh commandants to obey .that it is really a wonder the "Sun" ; was. not altogether eclipsed. However, the journal Vose and set on purely Christian lines for a whole week, neither the proprietor nor Dr. Parker has filed his schedule, and the paper is still extant, running on secular, or un-Chris-tian lines. As a conscientious temperance man, Dr. Parker of course could not admit any beer, spirit, wine or public house "ads." to appear in the "Sun"' while he controlled it;, theatrical notices of all kinds and descriptions must have been 'tabu"; the turf should certainly have been excluded, and stock exchange reports and quotations ought to have been rigidly suppressed, lest they prove a stumbling block to the feet of weak brethren eager to become rich through speculative gambling. It will be some weeks hence before we can be in s. position to judge "Christian journalism" on the Parker plan; but from the rev. doctor's Christmas sermon there is reason to fear that, like the modern race of Christians whom he condemns, he has been shockingly weak. The one thing needful he found ;to be the "betting news"—without which no London daily could live. Apparently the reverend editor adopted the same unsatisfactory compromise as that which brought a pious, but now defunct, Melbourne daily into <liM; culties-viz., reporting racing-, anfe omitting the starting1 prices.
