Mr E. Guy, third officer of the s.s.-Pobo-rna, has successfully passed the voluntary examination in the syllabus of the laws of deviation of compasses of! iron ships. He studied at Gifford's Navigation School, Wellington.

Mr Lippitt, late chief officer of the s.s. Maori, who has been studying at Gifford's Navigation School, Wellington, has passed his examination as master of a foreigngoing vessel before Captain Blackburn, Chief Examiner.

The B.s. Moura arrived from the South via way ports at 10.15 a.m. to-day, berthing at Quay-street Wharf. She left Dunedin at 3 p.m. on the 13th inst.. called at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, and leaving the latter port at 11 a.m. on the 17th arrived as above. Had fine weather throughout the trip. The Moura has now the following officers:—Captain McDonald; Mr J. McKenzie, chief officer; Mr Thos. Beattie, second; Mr E. Gilllng. third; Mr'; Percy Isaac, purser; Mr H. Neill, assistant purser; Mr A. Mcßride, chief engineer; Mr W. A. Wouse, second; Mr A. McGernon, third; Mr A. Edmondson. fourth; and Mr J. Patterson, chief steward. The Moura leaves for the South again at noon to-morrow.
