TONGAN FOREIGN RELATIONS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—Your correspondent, "Viator." represents (December 24) the Tongans as preparing armed resistance and importing powder by the ton. This is altogether incorrect. The largest importation of powder by the Government d.iring the past twelve months was five hundredweight; that is barely sufficient for saluting, signalling and other peaceful purposes. The Tongans are well aware that no foreign Power intends to harm them. The whole idea of warlike preparations is utterly absurd and wholly imaginary.—l am, e?c, BRITON.
