COMMONWEALTH RIFLE MEETING.

The following members of 'the. volunteer force of the Auckland, district hate been selected to represent 'Auckland at the fSrta> coming meeting "In" Sydney, commencing on January Sth, 1901:.—Colour-sergeant. ;<satland, P. McCarthy of the Coroinan; del Rifles, and Sergeant iT. Kretchjnar atfd Private M. Tobin. of the. Victoria Rifles, Auckland, arid Captain ftfclntoSh' df the One'hunga Rifles. Whilst hardly the. .very best team that Auckland could'send (if the men could.spare the Jtiecessary.timetO; attend), it is nevertheless a good, sound t?am, and the liien are well qualifiedand seasoned shots, and will certainly do credit to tHe city they represent. Private P. McCarthy, Coromandel: An old Auckland volunteer. Has many times competed at the New Zealand meetings, has also been twice to Sydney and Mel-' bourne, and has well earned his place as one of the best shots 5n Auckland.

..Private M. Tobin, Victoria Rifles: One of the 'best' known shots in the district, and winner of many trophies, such as Hancock's prize of 20 guineas and Clark's belt. Has always done well at the New Zealand meetings; has also represented Auckland at Sydney.

Colour-sergeant Gatland, Coromandel: The baby shot of the teajn, but a thoroughly good man. Did. very r well. at^the.last Auckland rifle meeting, and also tit .M$ company's shooting. First appearance at firstclass^nxeeting. • » , .Sergeant. T.! 4 ,Kr'etcli.mar, Victoria Rifles: An old Auckland and Victorian rifleman, and winner of. many prizes. Holdjs""Victoria Rifles' company belt, and is likely to figure in the I prize, list.

The Akarana 'Rifle Club are also sending a member of the.club to represent them, outs'de of,the, volunteer team, but,.:who will nevertheless be qualified to compqte with tnem as a member of.the team in the "Empire" teams match of, eight,.menufrom apy. colony. -The club las - picked -l£r W. Hi Shepherd, an old volunteer and rifleman. He has attended many N.Z.R.A. meetings, and always won.money, and may well be expected to unhold his reputation as a firstein.ss, snot?
