WELLINGTON, this day.
The Acting-Defence Minister, Mb Ward, authorises an emphatic denial of the rumour that, the Government in* tend to despatch 700 men to South Africa. The total will be 500, as prer viously announced, 300 forming the Sixth Contingent and 300 to fill gaps in the contingents now at the seat of war.
