CALEDONIAN SPORTS.

Fine weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, when the annual sports meeting under the auspices of the Auckland Caledonian Society was held on the Domain Cricket Ground. The gathering attracted a fair attendance of some 1500 people. The meeting proved as successful as in former years, and the different competitions created a good deal of interest. The running events were perhaps not so closely contested as usual, but the cycling' races produced some fine finishes, and in almost every race, heats included, the winner gained the judge's verdict by no more than a wheel or half a wheel. The Highland competitions and the weightputting, hammer-throwing, and wrestling contests created, as usual, a great deal of interest and were greatly appreciated. In the hammer-throwing- competition Constable Skinner, the well-known athlete, accomplished the splendid throw of 154 feet, using a wire-handled hammer.
