AUCKLAND-ONEHUNGA CANAL.
PONSONBY NAVALS IN CAMP.
ST. STEPHEN'S NATIVE SCHOOL.
CHINESE PICTURES
The most striking of the pictures in the "Graphic" this week is that which shows a bird's-eye view of the country between the Manukau and Waitemata on the line of the Tamaki Elver. Looking down cm the familiar land one notices it is traversed by a fine canal with ships on its waters. This is the waterway which it is proposed to construct to overcome the comparatively insignificant land barrier -nature has placed between the two seas at our door.
The pictures of the Ponsonby Naval Artillery show as smart a set of men as one could desire. The series was taken when the men were recently in camp.
During the visit of the. Hon.. HallJones, Minister of Public Works, to the North, a photograph was taken of the Ministerial party and the first passenger train that had run as far as Tahekeroa on the North Kaipara line. The scene is reproduced in the "Graphic."
A series of views of the Takapuna Racing Club's recent meeting shows the racecourse at its best, and the crowds assembled there.
The flag ceremony at St. Stephen's Native School has much more- interest atttached to it than these oft-repeat-ed functions can as a rule claim. The "Graphic" has pictures of the boys and visitors, which are particularly good. The Birkenheiad and JS'orthcote Lawn Tennis Club had their opening last Saturday. Views of the lawns •and members are among our illustrations. There arc, in addition to these leading pictorial features, excellent views of China, of the Waikato, a Maori Burial Cave, Kawau, Cartoonlets, etc.
The reading matter abounds in articles, notes and sketches of interest, social news, and the best of fiction. The ladies' pages a-re particularly full and interesting; and the children's department unique. For its racing, tennis, bowling, cricket, and sporting information, the journal occupies a leading place.
