HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary meeting- of the Auckland. Harbour Board waa beld this afternoon. Present: Mr M. Kiccol (acting chairman), jNlessrs J. Stichbury, J. C. Macky, A. E. Harris, Alex. Alison, W. J. W. Philson, J. 1. Julian, C. C. Dacre, and Chas Grey.

Delay in Berthing Mail Steamer.— The Acting-Chairman stated that a telegram had been sent to 3Mr J. H. Witheford, the chairman, at Wellington, asking to get all restrictions upon berthing vessels at Auckland wharves after fumigation removed. No reply had been received from Mr • Witheford. Mr Jsiccol drew attention to the great delay of two hours in berthing the mail steamer through the. action of the health officer. He moved the following resolution: "That the circumstances connected with the delay in berthing the mail steamer be reported to the Chairman of the Board, and that lie interview the Central Board of Health at Wellington on the matter in order to avoid a recurrence of such delay." Mr Alison said he heartily agreed with the resolution, which was carried unanimously. Freeman's Bay Reclamation. —A letter was read from the Town Clerk of Auckland stating the City Council at its last meeting resolved to accept the offer of the Board for the reclamation of Victoria Athletic Park at Freeman's Bay, the lease of the m acres to be for 50 years at a rental of not exeeding £500 per annum, the reclamation "to be used only for a publicrecreation ground and to be laid down in grass and fenced; that the proposal and its acceptance by the Council to be subject to a vote of the ratepayers in favour thereof ami in favour of a loan* of £SOOO to be raised to provide funds for laying nut the ground. To enable the poll of ratepayers to ' be taken the Council asked the Jiokvfl to keep the offer open for a further period of three months.—The secretary said this would run the time on to January.—1 Mr Julian moved that the extension asked for be granted.—Mr. Philson said the City Council wanted 132 feet of valuable frontage to the sea. This proposal, he would strongly oppose; also any extension of time asked for. —Mr St'ichbury said the Council wanted to put a roadway to the sea.—lt was eventually agreed that the whole matter be referred to the Finance and Legal Committee to report.
