MEMORIAL AT ONEHUNGA.

At last night's ordinary meeting of the Oneh/nga. Borough Counca^a Sn^^elnSst^a^eW with a photographic shield °***c volunteers from Onehunga and Man "our boys" at the front.

The Mayor said he was voicing the sentiments of the whole of the Council when he said the walls of the Council Chamber could well be adorned with such a shield. There they saw the Colonial Britishers who were prepared, and did make a sacrifice in the defence of the Empire. He then tinveiled the shield'amidst applause. The shield is suitably framed, and contains the photographs of the following volunteers:— W. Urquhart, E. Robinson. I{. Colhoun. W. Worrell, J. Sorenson, 11. Wbyte, M. Kirkbride. J. Montgomerie, A. MoLeod, C. Brown, A. Jackson, R. Smith, A. Suttie, C. Lennard, G. Hunter, H. Bray. Under the photographs is the following inscription: — "Volunteers from Onehunga and Mangere who served in the various contingents of mounted infantry contributed by New Zealand in the support of the British arms in the Boer War, 1899-1900."
