STREETS IN GREY LYNN.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—As a resident in Grey Lynn Borough I wish to call attention to the very unsatisfactory state of Pollen-street, which I pass along daily. Up to the present Pollen-street is looked on as the only one open to vehicular traffic between the Great North and Ponsonby Roads. A "Slough of Despond" now exists, making it almost impossible for carts to pass along. I believe for over two years not a pound has been spent to improve its state. Only last week, when "those disturbers of the midnight hours'* were being driven over this spot, they must have got stuck in the mud, for the shouts of the drivers could be heard for half-a----mlle; and when I passed aloug last Friday I observed that levers and chocks had been used to help some poor unfortunate out of trouble. I do not now refer to footpaths, for we have not got them yet. The present juncture seems opportune for calling public attention to this matter—on the eve of an election. I am informed that our representative, who retires, seeks re-election; but I believe he will have opposition. I trust whoever gets the confidence of the majority of the ratepayers will bo a live man and see to the interests of those who put him in power. We are tired of things as they now exist.—l am, etc.,

ONE WHO KNOWS.
