AUSTRALASIAN CATHOLIC CONGRESS.

The Right Rev. Monsignor O'Reilly and the Very Rev. Father Egan left for Sydney to-day by the Elingamite to attend the Australasian Ga#iolic Congress, which opens there on Sunday. His Eminence Cardinal Moran will preside, and the Bishops of Australasia and representative clergy and laity are to attend. His Lordship Dr. Lerdhan is unable to attend through pressure of engagements, and Monsignor O'Reilly and Dr. Egan will represent the Auckland diocese. The Sydney "Daily Telegraph'; has the following re the Conference: — The Australasian Catholic Congress will open in St. Mary's Hall on Monday, the 10th September, and will be continued during the week. The subjects to be discussed are: "Social Questions," "Catholic Apologetics," "Education," "Science and Sacred Art,' "Ethnology and Statistics," and "History." There will be. three sessions of the Congress each day, and, setting an example to other institutions, a time limit has been fixed for the discussions. For the. reading of a paper 20 minutes is to be allowed, and in the discussion each speaker is to be allowed five minutes, unless the president shall permit an extension of time. Special sessions are to be devoted to subjects of interest to the Catholic young men's societies, Catholic guilds and benefit societies and Catholic schools. Great preparations are being made for the- entertainment of the members of the Congress. A large number of representatives from all the Australasian colonies are expected. The programme will include a musical entertainment at the Town Hall on Sept. 11 in aid <>* the Cathedral Building Fund, and a garden party at Government• ■ House on the 14th. The ceremony of the solemn dedication of St. Mary's Cathedral is to be held on September 9, on which occasion Lord Beauchamp will be present.
