FIRES AT PAEROA.

PAEROA, this day,

A fire occurred on Saturday night at 12.30 o'clock on the premises of Mr J. Crowle, tailor, in Belmont Road, Paeroa. It was discovered by Mr Bromwich, baker, who saw the glare and rang the firebell. The brigade was at work within ten minutes of the alarm, and not only confined the fire to the building, but extinguished it with only the shop and the workroom burnt inside. The whole of th© stock was destro3 red. The building is owned by Mrs MeGuire, and is insured for £75 in the Guardian oflice. The stock is insured for £50 in the United office. Mr Crowle had a, narrow escape from suffocation. He was discovered in his bedroom stupified with smoke and had to be carried out. The origin of the fire is a mystery.

Early this morning- the dwellinghouse of Mr F. Lipsey, on the Thames Road, was completely destroyed by fire. The only occupant was the owner, who awoke in time to escape with one suit of clothes. Nothing else was saved. The house was a long way back from the road, and nothing was known of the fire till this morning. The house and furniture were insured in the Madgeburg Company for £100. The owner estimates hia loss at £2.00 over the insurance.
