UNREGISTERED DOGS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Kindly allow me space In your valuable columns for a few remarks on the above. I have been under canine taxation for the last six years in the ,-ity, and can honestly say I have never tried to evade the tax. Now, what is our worthy l'assooer doinc in this matter? It is very discouraging for honest people to see half the dogs in the town unregistered. For Instance, while walking through two or three of the Ponsonby streets recently I counted no less than 17 dogs without 1000 collars on. Are they unregistered, or are their collars in glass cases at,home? I think the former, is the correct answer in most instances. I mderstnnd our dog ranger is a paid man. Surely, then, it does not take him a whole year to see that all the city dogs are registered. Perhaps his salary is Insufficient to keep him continually at his terrible task. I do not. wish to unduly criticise tbe authorities, hut surely now that the dog tax is reduced ?>0 p<*r cont. it is their duty to see that it is nnld. I hope this will wake our very wealthy Council's ermine coaxer from his slumbers.—Yours In anticipation.

WIDEAWAKE.
