CITY COUNCIL.

i The usual fortnightly meeting of the '■ members of. the City Council was held , last evening, when there were present, j the Mayor (Mr David Goldie), Councillors Jamie son, Warren, Salmon, Far-1 reil, Entrican, Kidd, Hannan, Pa.ter- \ son, Hewson, Courtney, Stichtoury, j Parr, Grey, Masefield, Heslceth and j Tudehope. I Complaint.— Thomas Dick wrote [ drawing attention to the fact that a vacant gully in Fitzroy and Douglas Streets, Ponsonby, was being made the dumping ground for all manner of j refuse, some of which was very offen- j Eire. The latter was referred to the ; Streets Committee. ; Footpath.—Messrs Winterbourne and Co. wrote asking to have the footpath in Lower Albert-street attended to. The Engineer reported the contractor ; .[had been notified. The letter was referred to the Streets Committee. ! Pompallier Terrance. — A. Dewaj ; -wrote asking that the north side of j fPompullier Terrace from Ponsonby I Boad to Clarence-street should receive ! attention, as it is neither kerbed or j channelled, and the gutter had not. j 'been cleaned for some months. The [ Engineer reported that the storm j water channel had been attended to. j It was resolved to reply in terms oi Engineer's, report, Water Shed.—Messrs. Cooke and | Buddie wrote offering to sell 402 acre* | of land to the Council, having one mile j frontage to Nihotapu river, at 20/ per j acre- also 201 acres with mile frontage j to Waitakerei river, at £2 per acre. The letter was referred to the-Water-works Committee. _ . Fish Refuse.—A number of citizen* ■wrote complaining of a nuisance created by the method adopted for re- j tmoving fish, offal. The letter was re, i if erred to the Legal Committee. Ihe [Mayor said the offal should not be removed later than 7 a.m. Beres-fordrstreet.— C X- Barker wrote asking that a six-inch pipe be laid from Wolif-street to enable several properties at the foot of Beresforditreet to connect their drains with, the imam sewer, Referred to the Streets Committee. , Ponsonby Terrace.—The Secretary to ihe Ponsonby School Committee wrote asking that'the channelling m lanKonby Ten-ace be put in order as at -present there a«re holes dangerous to little children. A petition was also received from residents in the same Terrace, pointing out that 13 new houses had been built and three were about to be erected. The petitioners asked to have the. footpath formed amd channelling attended to. The Engineer reported the S:erbing and channelling asked for would cost £100, but the work most urgently required could toe done for £31 5/. Cr. Parr spoke m support of the work being done, and j it was decided on his motion that the work should be done by the Ward workmen as soon, as relieved from attending to sanitary matters. lSbbish Tip.-C. Ft Buddie, wrote drawing attention, to the deposit of objectionable matter upon the vacant allotment in Wynyard-street. The [Engineer reported, that instructions had been given to discontinue the tip. Water Meter.-Tfce Town Clerk, ParDell, wrote stating that when the water was shut off at night the record of water consumed in Parnell as shown. by the meter for one week showed an increase of about one-third, This the , Council attributed to the meters recording air before the water reached t£em and asked that a rebate be allowed. Petition from residents of Angiesea-street, re extension of sewer: Referred to engineer to report.
