HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary meeting- of the Auckland Harbour Hoard was .held yesterday, when there were present Messrs .1. 11. Wilheford (chairman). M. i\iccol, A. U. Harris, J. T. Julian, YY. J. Napier, ,J. (. . Maekay, YV. (.Unison, W. Philson, A. Kidd, J. Btichbnry, C. Grey. Plague Precautions. —-The Governor's letter re precautions against plague (as already published) was received. Timber Rooms. —A letter from the Parnell Borough Council objecting to St. George's May being- used as a locality lor timber booms was read and received. The chairman stated that the site was the best one In the interests of the public as well as the ti in her millers. It was decided to reply that everything- would be done to protect public interests. • 'Insanitary Offices.—4n connection with the complaint re rat - infested offices on the western side ol' the Queen-street Wharf, the Board decided to refer the matter to the Works and Tariff Committee, the Foreman of Works to report, a.s to the cost of new offices and the best site for their erection.

Paper Mills—Mr H. J. Blythe wrote calling attention to the objectionable practice of> material from Australia being carried up from Auckland 10 the paper mills at Eiverhead in the passenger steamer. The settlers had strong objections to travelling in company with such disagreeable and unhealthy cargo, —The Secretary to the Board stated that the Paper Mill Company would in future take their material up to the mill by a cargo boat, and not by the passenger steamer. — It was agreed to- inform Mr Blythe accordingly.

Dredger No. 121. —The Foreman of Works reported that Mr Fulierton, dredging contractor, had disregarded the instructions of the Harbourmaster on the 23rd April, and had gone out to sea on that evening 'with a load of silt. As the dredger left at 8.15 p.m., and was back at eleven, she could not have gone to the proper dumping ground within the time. — The dredger engineer reported that the dredger left- her moorings at 8.15 p.m. on the 23rd April, and dropped her load eight minutes after passing Rangitoto Reef, being back at the moorings at 11.15 p.m.—lt was stated -that the load had been deposited miles away from the proper place, and that the contractor had accordingly broken his contract. —The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee to inquire into.

Accident Insurance.—'inree tenders were received for accident insurance, and were referred to the Legal and Finance Committee for consideration.
